***CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS***

For 2 days over 30 speakers ensured a full house while presenting their speeches and giving insight in their field of expertise and their view on the developments in energy trading in the CSEE region. As the ambition of the European Commission is to complete the internal market by 2014 a lot of work still needs to be done.

Here is an overview of the issues that were presented and discussed:

  • The Memorandum of Understanding for single price market coupling between Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Hungary on which further decisions will be taken later this month.
  • The principles of CWE market coupling will be used as a basis The pros and cons for the possible introduction of a European Energy Wholesale Trading Passport license which is under consultation until 17 June
  • Day one ended with an interesting discussion on future scenarios for the power markets and how the power exchanges could work together in the region
  • The gas trading session provided the conference delegates with an insight into the infrastructural issues in the region with regards to the current pipeline projects, gas storage, shale gas and an overview of the barriers for gas trading in the different countries in the CSEE region

  • At the closing of the conference one of the founders of the Turkish traders association presented an interesting overview on the current developments in the Turkish market and gave an outlook for the opportunities in this market in the coming years.
